Salesforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) supports the use of third-party authenticator apps that generate time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes. There are many apps available, including free versions. Some popular options include: Google Authenticatorâ„¢ (links below), and Authyâ„¢
To start download your chosen app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Once your app is setup select the "One-Time Password Generator" method.
The next screen will present you with a QR code. This QR needs to be scanned from within the password generating app of your choice.
Once the app has scanned the code, it will begin generating 6 digit passwords that expire after 30 seconds. Enter the displayed 6 digit code and click connect.
If successful you will receive a confirmation tick.
It is important to remember that when setting up for the first time while logging into Tableau, once you have successfully connected your password generating app, you will still need to verify your log in. That is, once setup it will immediately ask you for a code after the "Tick".
